Prato visit's NYC- behind the scenes in my office
Been working on a range of product I have developed for my Marc Ecko line out of Prato, Italy. Lorenzo and Ettore came to review fits and styling details this Monday. The collection has an emphasis on great outerwear, technical but "natural" fabrications and proper tailored pieces-- I'm really hyped about it. I am using art from all my paintings that I have done over the last 18 months-- particularly the "Alice in Wonderland" series. Lot's of great laundered buttery knits as well.
Is Barack Obama really as "Stylish" as people say?
I have been solicited to give interviews or answer questions about "How Barack's style will change the fashion industry". It has made me scratch my head a bit and pass on the opportunity. You may have read how Donatella Versace was inspired by our new President's fashion sense for her Spring 2009 collection. After further inspection, as a designer myself-- I do not see how Versace connected the dots.
After seeing that image yesterday of President-Elect with W.-- it occured to me that "Barack really is not that great of a dresser". Than as I thumbed my remote thru the talking heads on the news this morning-- they too all donned the cliche get up. Bad 2 or 3 button suit. Pants too big. Wack Donald-Trump-esque solid "baby blue" or some-odd stripe tie. Basic oxford shoes. Etc. Straight out of a "Today's Man" -- two-for-one suit sale.
Clearly what we love about our new President is our NEW President. The man-- not his frumpy clothing. So I said it...by deduction, you can hate me--- Barack does not have a great, contagious sense of style. I do not care how many covers of Men's Vogue or GQ he gets -- he will be no less stylish; nor do I care what designers create "tribute" collections to him. Do not count on a "blue tie" epidemic any time soon. His style is plain, typical--- and a little like my dads (sorry dad). And by the way-- I like him that way, thank you very much.
Hype Williams channels Ralph Bakshi-- Kanye Heartless video is amazing!
Check out Kanye's latest animated video for "Heartless". No doubt-- conciously or unconciously as students to the 80's-- Hype and Kanye have channeled the animation of the great Ralph Bakshi-- who did an amazing feature called "American Pop". Check the video's-- am I stretching it???
