Fire! Chen Ke's "Tiger Rabbit" at the 798 district in Beijing
I just had my first stroll thru the 798 Art Zone here in Beijing. It is wild. I'd challenge it's one of the most exciting art districts in the world-- if not "the one". To think that the most democratic phenom happening in China is ART....is nuts. 798 is an art market-- open to the public. It is all closed to auto traffic. It is in an old industrial zone of Beijing. The architecture is a cobbled together mix of world war 2 military facilities-- stone, masonry, glass and rusty steel.
People have so much flavor here. From their fashion to their unique brand of swagger. You get the sense they are going through a sexual revolution and a enlightening period. Wow. I'm hyped. This Tiger Rabbit piece is crazed! I need to bring this one home. Maybe the artist will do a rhino for me like this...?
