R.I.P. The King of Pop
Jun 25, 2009 at 7:19 PM
Just landed in Rio. Saw the news on Michael Jackson. Dead at 50.
Basically, from a broken heart.
"Off the Wall" was the greatest pop music album of all time. Controversy
aside-- his music and impact on American culture will leave a deep and rich
legacy.
Tragic. We will miss him.

It was a sad to learn of the tragic passing of one of the most influential pop icons of the 20th century. Even today, DJs from all over the world could pull out any uptempo Michael Jackson recording and make the party happen. Caught in a bind, pull out "Beat It" and watch the dance floor shake. Want to take it up a notch, "Wanna Be Starting Something" was your ace in the hole. Looking for a groove to keep the floor moving, "Get On The Floor," "Smooth Criminal," "Black or White"...all gems. The signature sound of Michael Jackson was a copyright that no one could ever copycat. He empowered the DJ, many of whom owe a great deal of gratitude to MJ for releasing accessible music that made our jobs that much easier. It's funny...MJ wasn't at the right place at the right time. For 40 years, DJs were at Michael Jackson's place at HIS time. For it was HIS time...this KING OF POP...that inspired all of us to move our bodies and sing those songs. Although Jackson's final years did not produce a new "Thriller" or "Don't Stop Til You Get Enough," we were all still spellbound by his incredible (yet sometimes sad) life. His spirit to move people around the world with a simple wave, a smile and that child like innocence will be mourned, as well as missed.
