URBAN THERMAL DYNAMICS (UTD)- Mos Def!!!!

"My Kung FU! Is the style you haven't mastered!" I remember my man Anthony Marshall from Lyricist Lounge giving me tapes of this band called UTD. UTD (Urban Thermal Dynamics) was Mos Def's first group. It was 1994, and J. Prins (the producer) was doing a ton of work for our Lyricist Lounge mixtapes.  I was still at Rutgers...rocking a walkman.

The short-lived group Urban Thermo Dynamics, which began in 1994 with his younger brother D.c.Q and younger sister Ces...was Mos's official start recording.  Despite their contract with Payday Records, the group only released two singles, and their debut album Manifest Destiny was not released until 2004, when it was distributed by Illson Media.
